If you’re looking for a quick weeknight dinner that feels a little more special than the effort it takes, these Korean BBQ Beef Bowls are one of my favorite meals to make. They’re budget-friendly, family-friendly, and come together with simple ingredients I usually already have in the pantry.
What I love most about this recipe is that it uses ground beef instead of expensive cuts of meat. It gives you all those sweet and savory takeout-inspired flavors without the extra cost.

Why I Love This Recipe
- Ready in about 20 minutes
- Uses inexpensive ground beef
- Easy to customize with whatever vegetables you have on hand
- Great for busy weeknights
- Tastes like takeout without the takeout price tag
The best part is that the hardest step is simply browning the ground beef. After that, everything comes together quickly.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 1–2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- ½ tablespoon powdered ginger (or fresh ginger if you have it)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- Cooked rice
- Bell peppers
- Shredded carrots
- Cabbage
- Any additional vegetables or toppings your family enjoys
Instructions:
Step 1: Cook the Rice

Start by getting your rice cooking. A rice cooker makes this meal almost effortless and is one of the most-used appliances in my kitchen.
Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef

While the rice cooks, brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess grease if needed.
Step 3: Make the Sauce

In a small bowl, whisk together:
- Brown sugar
- Soy sauce
- Garlic
- Sesame oil
- Ginger
Step 4: Prepare Your Vegetables

While the beef cooks, prepare your toppings. I used bell peppers, shredded carrots, and cabbage, but this recipe works with almost any vegetables you have available.

If desired, lightly sauté the cabbage for a softer texture. This step is completely optional.
Step 5: Add the Sauce

Pour the prepared sauce into the cooked ground beef and stir to combine.
Cook for another 1–2 minutes until everything is coated and heated through. This is when the kitchen starts smelling like your favorite takeout restaurant.
Step 6: Build Your Bowls

Add rice to each bowl, top with the Korean BBQ beef, and finish with your favorite vegetables and toppings.
Keep it simple or load it up—this meal is easy to customize for everyone in the family.
